Vintage cardboard boxes are perfect for gifts, and they’re super simple to make, and here we will tell you what you need to begin.
- X-Acto knife
- White and paper glue
- Thick paper
- Hemp Cord
Directions to do this:
First, you need to get all of the supplies. From here cut out two similar sizes of cardboard. At this point, you should measure them out to the desired length and width. You should cut out two pieces of cardboard according to box length and thickness of the pieces depending on how you want it to be. Cut out two with the same pieces of thickness, and make sure that they have the same width, and one that’s a little bit thinner, but the same length.
From there, take one of the pieces, glue it to the middle of a brown piece of paper, cut the corners on the side to make it edged, and then glue the extra to the cardboard as well. Wrap the paper around the cardboard, encircling this, and from there, you want to make the lid. You want to take the thin piece, attach that to the brown paper, and keep at least ½ a centimeter between them. Wrap it around the paper, and keep at least 1 cm of paper extra and don’t’ glue it all to the cardboard.
Glue the walls at this time. It will be slippy, but once glued together it will stay. Let it dry. Put the glue on the paper that’s on the lead. Attach it to the top of the box.
Put a bead on the box near the middle, and then attach a thick thread of hemp cord to the lead of the box to help secure and lock it.
From there, you’re done, and you can make the box in whatever way you can, decorating it with paints, ribbons, or whatever. Personally, I always love to employ a theme to them, so if you’re giving it to someone for christmas, giving them with a holiday theme to them with stickers and the like is the way to go. If you’re doing them for a birthday present, you can always add on there the person’s favorite color, or maybe something that they enjoy. That little extra personal touch is something that people love, and while they can often take a bit of time to make, it does really wow the person.
Or, if you’re giving it to someone and you don’t want to decorate it, that’s fine too. These vintage boxes do tend to often look great if they’re painted a lighter color, or if they’re kept a singular neutral color, and from there maybe a few accents are added.
Whatever the case, they’re fun, and a great DIY gift for people. They’re quite pretty and they’re helpful for anyone looking to create a beautiful box.
